Albayzin

The Albayzin (or the Albaicin) is the old Moorish quarters built into the side of the hill at the nape of Granada. Starting from lower ground at Plaza Nueva, you walk along the River Darro up the winding Carrera del Darro (otherwise known as Paseo de Los Tristes). These cobbled, narrow streets take you up and up on a magical walk into the heart of old town Granada. Steeped in history, you are surrounded by small Grenadine houses, shops, restaurants & bars. Stopping on your way for a tapa, which always comes as an accompaniment when you order a drink, will make the 20 minute walk uphill seem all the more worthwhile. At the very top of the hill, you'll see breathtaking views of the Alhambra opposite. You will have panoramic views of Granada and the often snow-capped Sierra Nevada in the backdrop -  worth the walk by day or night.
